Fall 2026: head-to-toe red, capes are back, and tailoring gets sharp again

The Fall 2026 runways went loud. The through-lines worth knowing:
The looks
- Head-to-toe red. Not an accent — the whole outfit.
- Capes and ponchos return, after several seasons away.
- Sharp tailoring, in tuxedo and “power suit” register.
- Skirt suits, and shrunken, cropped jackets, both having a clear moment.
- Animal prints — leopard through cow — running on into resort 2027.
Jewellery
Ornate, baroque-style pieces are displacing the minimalist studs that dominated recent seasons. If you own one statement piece and have not worn it in three years, this is the season for it.
The reason behind the mood
Part of this is the industry’s ongoing “musical chairs” at the top: Jonathan Anderson at Dior, Matthieu Blazy at Chanel. New creative directors arrive wanting to be seen arriving, and the collective result is a more expressive, more optimistic 2026 than the quiet-luxury years that preceded it.
Copenhagen Fashion Week (SS27) was the late-August highlight of the calendar.
