Tea auction centre gets a modernisation roadmap, tea museum among five projects

The Assam Chief Secretary chaired a Governing Body meeting of the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre on 12 August to review how it functions and set a roadmap for strengthening its position in the state’s tea economy.
What was on the table
- Improving auction efficiency and widening participation from both producers and buyers
- Developing GTAC as a tea tourism hub, with five proposed projects including a tea museum
- Modernising the auction hall and tightening warehousing procedures
- Strengthening tea-testing standards
- Improving export capability through the Inland Container Depot at Amingaon
The direction to stakeholders was coordinated, time-bound implementation, with the stated aim of turning GTAC into a stronger, modern and globally competitive platform for Assam tea.
